§1Philosophy

What I'm trying to do in the classroom.

My aim is to make data literacy feel essential and attainable for every business student, not only for those who already identify as technical. I teach analytics as a way of improving decisions: students should learn how to work with data, but also how to frame a problem, judge evidence, and communicate conclusions with appropriate care. I therefore rely heavily on real cases and, in the Capstone course, live client projects, because analytical judgment develops best when the problem is concrete and the stakes are real. Students should leave not merely able to run an analysis, but able to decide when analysis is useful, how much confidence to place in it, and what action it should inform.

“The whole semester team project of developing the database from the very start — filling tables and making queries for business problems — was excellent. Prof. Li made the fundamentals of relationships and entities strong for the whole class.”

“Data management & use of SQL!! Very challenging topic to teach, but excellent professor — did a wonderful job of meeting various students where they're at. We had novices and experts in database in this class and he did a great job explaining and bridging the gaps for all students.”

Data Management · MSBA · William & Mary

“Professor Li is awesome! He is a great professor and cares deeply about students' success. He knows the content and explains material clearly. He is approachable, flexible, and supportive. One of the best professors in the MSBA program!”
